How Long Will You Live?

How long will you live may be determined by the lifestyle that you decide to follow. The battle of conventional medicine with natural healthy living solutions seems to be dominated by the huge studies done by the pharmaceutical companies, universities and other self-interest businesses to show that only medical procedures are valid. The results of these studies are usually taught in medical schools. The emerging new doctors have no understanding of the curative hallmarks of a plant based lifestyle even thought there are ample studies that support healthy living that offer prevention and reversal of many chronic conditions.

Adding Years to Life Expectancy

Caldwell Esselstyn, MD, of the Cleveland Clinic, created a classic study of 18 heart patients that were beyond any treatment from the clinic.  Dr. Esselstyn's program with the advanced heart disease patients reversed their disabling disease by following a plant-based diet.

Are pills your choice?

This was a small study by industry standards, but the results were an impressive 100% of the eighteen participants reversing their debilitating condition. Most of the medical community will dismiss the unbelievable results of the doctor's work because of the size of the study. On the other hand, drug manufacturers may study thousands of people to show only a paltry 15% drop in heart events in a sub-sample of patients that took their drug. This would be an acceptable number to confirm the marketing of their product to the public.

There is a new industry study that shows compelling data that supports how extending life expectancy is possible. How long will you live is determined by following a few basic rules. This will not be good news for the medical/pharmaceutical establishment. It will not be easy to dismiss this study as insignificant. For the other side of the coin, it's a wonderful surprise for promoting good health!

Will food be your choice?

2018 Study: Impact of Healthy Lifestyle Factors on Life Expectancy in the U.S. Population

The authors of the 2018 study said this: "the United States healthcare system has focused primarily on drug discoveries and disease treatment rather than prevention." The following resources were used:

  • Nurses' Health Study 1980 - 2014
  • Health Professionals Follow up Study 1986-2014
  • 123,000 participants
  • 34 year follow-up
  • Published in "CIRCULATION" a scientific journal published by the American Heart Association

The Study's Conclusion

Conclusion: "Americans could narrow the life-expectancy gap between the United States and other industrialized countries by adopting a healthier lifestyle." This is a significant statement since the United States ranks 45th in life expectancy in the countries of the world as of the CIA report of 2019, and #1 in world health care cost.

And, how long will you live...

Here are the 5 critical lifestyle factors:

  1. A healthy diet
  2. Maintaining a body mass index of 18.5 to 24.9 kg/m2
  3. 30 minutes or more a day of moderate/vigorous physical activity
  4. light alcohol intake
  5. never smoking

Individuals that followed all 5 factors had a 74% lower risk of dying from any cause compared to those who did not make any changes in their living pattern. If you didn't make the changes, cancer deaths were 65% greater and heart disease deaths were 82% higher. Regarding the subject of how long will you live, this should certainly get the attention of everyone!

The study also concluded that a 50 year old woman who followed the program increased her probable life span by 14 years while men of the same age increased their life expectancy by 12.2 years. These are huge numbers. They represent a 48% and 49% gain in longevity by starting at least by age 50.

The results of this study seem to be consistent with countries on top of the life expectancy list such as Japan, Germany and Canada. Hopefully, the report will energize our governmental agencies, food producers, and big pharma to get serious and try to get us out of the unhealthy mess that we are in. Thank goodness, awareness of how you feed yourselves and the answers to how long will you live are starting to change in the right direction.

A longer life is perhaps a good goal, but the most important issue is maintaining good health while residing on spaceship earth. As cardiologist Dr. Kim Williams, the past president of the American College of Cardiology, said, "I don't mind dying, I just don't want it to be my fault."

We can easily rise to a long healthier life if we will get serious and adopt a healthy lifestyle. This is why Barbara and I started this website.
